The Adelaide Hills Natural Resource Centre is open to the public and is used as a resource base by the local community, school groups, teachers, landcare groups and tourists. 
 

The Centre maintains a small reference library and herbarium of local plant species, and provides a range of information materials covering topics of interest to the local community - ranging from land management issues to native plant and animal identification; to fire management and property planning, to climate change.

 

In addition, the Centre loans equipment and information resources, including DVD's, provides referral and administrative services, and offers a range of saleable items.

Native Plants of Norton Summit

 

The Native Plants of Norton Summit booklet provides a comprehensive guide to assist identification of plants local to the Norton Summit area.

The non-scientific descriptions and full colour photographs make it ideal for new landholders, bushwalkers and visitors to the area. It is also free!

The booklet highlights the natural beauty of the local plants and is designed to encourage the conservation, protection and revegetation of native species.

The Native Plants of Norton Summit booklet was produced by the Adelaide Hills Natural Resource Centre, with funding from the Adelaide & Mt Lofty Natural Resource Management Board.

Herbarium of local plant species

 

The Centre provides a herbarium of local plant species, compiled by expert Dr John Jessop, formerly of the State Herbarium, with contributions from local NRM officers and others. The herbarium contains thousands of species identified in the local area, including botanical name and family.

 

EQUIPMENT FOR LOAN - FREE

 

Tree Planters

 

Tree Planters are available to assist rapid planting of tubestock in all soil types.

 

Tree Poppers

 

The Tree Popper is available to assist eradicate invasive woody weeds. The robust tool can be used by one person using a simple concept of leverage to apply pressure to remove plant stem out of the ground.

 

Power Usage Meter

 

The Power Usage Meter is designed to monitor household energy usage, providing an overall picture of total energy consumption.

 

Selection of DVDs

 

A range of DVDs are available and include popular titles on Organic Gardening and Permaculture; Plants and Animals; Sustainability; Global Warming and Peak Oil.

 

SERVICES AVAILABLE

 

Referral

 

AHNRC staff provide a referral service for customers seeking information and advice from Government or non-Government agencies, NRM agencies, Landcare groups or local contractors.

 

Recycling

 

The Centre provides a mobile recycling program. Bring your old mobile phones and accessories to the mobile muster.

 

Photocopying and Laminating

 

The Centre is equipped to offer photocopying and laminating services for a small fee.

 

For Sale

 

The Centre offers a selection of books, maps and fact sheets on a range of topics at cost.

 

In addition, visitors can purchase a range of gift cards, prints and coffee mugs featuring South Australian bird species by local artist Jeremy Boot.
